For Immediate Release

PUEBLO WEST, Colo. — Pueblo West Metropolitan District and Nunn Construction are proud to announce the groundbreaking ceremony for Pueblo West Fire Station No. 2, set to take place on Friday, Sept. 8 at 9 a.m. at the site of the new station, 715 S. McCulloch Blvd. West. The public is invited to the event, which marks a significant step in enhancing fire protection services for the Pueblo West.

"The groundbreaking for Pueblo West Fire Station No. 2 is a long time coming,” Pueblo West Fire Chief Brian Caserta said. “This is a milestone that has been achieved through the unwavering support of our community from the passage of the 2020 Ballot Measure 6A, affirming Pueblo West’s commitment to safety and fire protection. This project is a testament to what we can accomplish when we work together, prioritizing public safety and community partnerships.”

Representatives from the Pueblo West Metro District, the Pueblo West Fire Department, and the project’s builder, Southern Colorado-based Nunn Construction, will be on hand for the groundbreaking.

“As a proud Pueblo West resident, I’m thrilled to be a part of the team responsible for building this facility that is much needed for our growing community,” Nunn Construction Pueblo Division Manager Vinnie Mattivi said. “This groundbreaking milestone not only kicks off the start of construction but serves to recognize and thank the efforts of the many people who had a hand in getting us to this point. From the voters who secured this funding for the Pueblo West Metro District and Pueblo West Fire Department, to our partners at HB&A Architects and the Nunn preconstruction staff, we’re grateful for the many people who have worked tirelessly to get us to the next phase of bringing this project to fruition for the Pueblo West community.”

Barring any unforeseen issues, construction will take approximately eight to nine months. The new station is expected to open in May 2024.

The construction of Fire Station No. 2 is funded through the passage of voter-approved Ballot Issue 6A, which authorized a temporary 1% sales tax increase through 2030. The tax is being used not only for the construction of Station No. 2, but various fire department needs, including staffing at Station No. 2.

“I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the residents of Pueblo West, our dedicated partner, Nunn Construction, HB&A Architects, the volunteers on the 6A Fire Protection Oversight Committee, and everyone who played a role in making this vision a reality,” Caserta said. “Together, we are building a safer future for our community.”

Following the Groundbreaking Ceremony, refreshments will be served after the ceremony at the old Fire Station No. 2, located at 529 South Avenida Del Oro East in Pueblo West.
