Pueblo West awarded $1.3 million for trail construction

Pueblo West awarded $1.3 million for trail construction

The Pueblo West Metropolitan District has received $1.35 million from the Colorado Department of Transportation to fund construction of a pedestrian and bicycle trail along S. Purcell Blvd., Governor Jared Polis announced. The award is part of Colorado's Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP)

"Our expansive trail system is one of the best amenities in our community," Pueblo West Parks and Recreation Director Carol Cosby said. "We're thankful to CDOT for funding this trail, which will make our trail system even better."

The new trail will connect from Hahns Peak Ave. at S. Purcell Blvd. to the Liberty Point Memorial, located at the southern tip of Purcell Blvd. The trail will be approximately 2.6 miles and connects to the rest of the Pueblo West trail system, which spans over 24 miles throughout Pueblo West and connects to Lake Pueblo State Park.

The funding is part of $42 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which will fund 37 TAP projects throughout Colorado. The TAP program funds projects that expand travel options, enhance safety for vulnerable users, improves the local economy, and protects the environment.

“Investing in roads and transportation saves people time and money, helps communities, our economy, and cuts pollution. This federal funding pairs strongly with bipartisan infrastructure law I signed as Governor and I look forward to the future of these 37 important projects that will create jobs and benefit Colorado communities,” Gov. Polis said.

The Purcell Blvd. Trail is projected for construction between 2025 and 2026.
