Strategic Plan Goals: Fire Department

  1. Address the increased demand for services community wide and meet national standards for emergency response times by providing adequate coverage for the 50 square miles of our community.
    • Status

      • Voters approved a specific fire sales tax 6A dedicated solely to the fire department to address this issue. The initiative began in January of 2020 and will sunset unless renewed by voters in December of 2030.
  2. Increase firefighter staffing levels to improve public and firefighter safety to meet national standards.
    • Status

      • Using the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standard 1720 for firefighter staffing, the department has been able to hire 12 new firefighters and have added three assistant fire chiefs to our shift. This moves us closer to meeting the standard of having 17 firefighters on duty per shift. This first hire of firefighters will be staffing the new station and raises our on duty staffing level to 11 per shift. This has been accomplished through the fire sales tax 6A funding source approved by voters.
